CALOR VILLAGE OF THE YEAR COMPETITION

Great News! We've done it again.

In 2003 we won the “Calor Village of the Year” competition for Bedfordshire. Consequently, under the rules of the competition, we were ineligible in 2004. However this year we entered again and, on Wednesday 13 th July at a ceremony in Oakley Village Hall, we were again awarded the trophy for the best village in Bedfordshire and automatically qualify for the East of England regional competition.

To have won the award once was a major achievement; to win it again we had to demonstrate that we had made significant advances in the community life of the village since the previous award, so to achieve our goal again for our second consecutive try is a great triumph for all residents.

It was clear from the citation and subsequent discussions, that the judges were most influenced by our welcoming and friendly spirit and by the quality of the proactive cooperation of all the diverse groups within Clifton.

Among the many elements that received praise were:-

•  Our communications in the form of this magazine and the www.clifton-beds.co.uk web-site.

•  The level of mutual support offered by churches, schools and clubs.

•  The willingness to start new initiatives as demonstrated by reforming the Guide pack.

•  The degree of help and care offered by an ‘outstanding care scheme' and by the Residents Association.

•  The extent to which everyone demonstrated energy and initiative in working together to meet common objectives. The recent Regatta and Flower Festival being the prime example and which received special praise.

So thank you, well done and a hearty pat on the back for everyone who has contributed to the life of this village, either by participation or support or by a simple friendly greeting on the street
